British Heart Foundation/Pink Skip Hire – Case Study

2nd December 2012

BHF and skip hire firm Pink Skip Hire, joined forces in January after discovering many reusable items were being thrown away into skips. Pink Skip Hire delivers a skip along with BHF donation sacks to its customers to help the charity continue its life-saving work. To date the company has collected over 500 sacks of unwanted items from customers so far, which could be worth in excess of £3,500.

Pink Skip Hire’s Shirley Bell said: ‘In our bid to reduce landfill, we noticed the amount of items that could be reused so we partnered with BHF. Customers using Pink Skip Hire have been very supportive so far.’

Here are just SOME of the items your money raised could fund and support over the coming months :

£15 – Help transform care for cardiac patients

Just £15 could cover the cost of an hour’s support and care for heart health patients from a Heart Healthcare Assistant. This is amongst many of the things they do that help to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions, saving the NHS millions of pounds every year.

£26 – Nurse a broken heart
2.5 million people are living with heart disease in the UK. Research shows that heart patients benefit greatly from expert nursing care at home; it improves their quality of life and decreases their admissions to hospitals The value of this gift could provide an hour of specialist care from a BHF Heart Nurse to improve the physical and emotional health of heart patients and their families.

£32 – Therapy for heart patients suffering anxiety and depression

£32 could fund an hour of support from a Clinical Psychologist. They provide a highly specialised clinical psychology and therapy service to patients who use the NHS Ayrshire and Arran Cardiac Liaison Service, with the aim of supporting the heart patients to have a more positive outlook and improving their quality of life.

£174 – Fund a Heart Health Specialist Educator for a day
During a typical day Heart Health Specialist Educators visit people in their workplaces and community groups to give them free advice and support on improving their heart health. They also train people in communities to provide emergency life support so that if someone has a heart attack they know what to do until the medical services arrive.

£190 – Nurse a broken heart

£180 could help to fund a full day’s BHF Heart Nursing care. In this time a Heart Nurse could care for up to 6 patients to help them manage their condition and prevent further hospital re-admissions.
